My Plan was to Marry a Farmer…

This doesn’t sound very fit for the year 2020 and the on-going women’s movement, but back in my younger days this was my grown up plan. I grew up working in the pallet and timber industry in Northern Minnesota, but I had always envisioned myself having land, tending to animals and growing my own food. Well, my grown up plans came to fruition and I married the best kind of farmer, the dairy farmer. In the farming world no one works harder than those closest to the utters, up at dawn milking and into bed way after the sun goes down. As far as I was concerned I hit the farming jackpot. We bought a little piece of land in southern Minnesota where we raised chickens, cattle, grew produce and sold baked goods at a local farmer’s market. But my plan started to spoil (yes, pun intended), my farmer turned corporate and we needed to move closer to the city. To a self made farm girl this was the worst 4-letter c word in my vocabulary. I knew I could not give up the farming that we started, and so after many years of searching we found 22 acres outside of Woodbury, to farm, raise animals, bake bread, preserve the harvest and share the full farm experience from the ground to the table. Rebel Pickle was created for families and individuals to get back to a simple and independent life style. Who knows what plans will change. I had planned to marry a farmer…

Instead I became the farmer.
